I know....not many a man would admit they watch America's Next Top Model (ANTM), but even a show with air-headed models can teach the revered MBA student something. While MBA's aren't required to do a photo shoot prior to our interviews with firms (thank god for most of us), the contestants face the same kind of judging that MBA's will when in front of a panel of interviewers. Watching several seasons of ANTM (mostly on Sunday Mornings) has taught me that the winners have a lot in common. The winners may be from extremely different backgrounds and with different looks, but each winner exhibits confidence without arrogance, a quick wit, a knowledge of who they are, an elimate of humor to their personality, and a calming presence about them. No matter what your education is (Harvard or School of Hard Knox) these are the traits you're going to need to impress an panel of interviewers whether your interviewer is Tyra Banks or Jack Welch. I am finding that this focus on first impression, fit, and presence is probably more important that any Excel function that I have learned. MBA $60,000....Watching ANTM $0.....Learning the same lesson...priceless.
