I want to be a Stock Superstar

Help!!! How long does it take for a company to make a hiring decision?

So I am currently waiting on three different jobs that I have interviewed for.  One (boutique investment bank) told me that it may take a month or so before a decision is made (it has been over six months, but I attribute part of this to the market turning south and the company being a bit unsure of the future), the second (major consulting firm) told me they would definitely contact me in three days and it has been over a month (I have heard from numerous insiders that the firm regularly does this), and the third (large bank) told me during the first interview that the process may take awhile (which is the first company to be honest) and it has also been about a month.  Granted these are full-time experienced hires, but how long does it take to make a decision between a handful of people?  Is there anyone else out there that has had this experience or that works in HR that can calm my nerves and tell me that it has nothing to do with me?

Well ... I can tell you that it has nothing to do with you! But the fact that they won't hire you bcos they are cutting down on their workforce. Would that really calm your nerves?

I'm sure that you're right to some extent J, but then it begs the question why interview in a downturn? In the case of the one bank, I believe that you're correct. In the other bank, I believe that it just takes a lot longer than I think. I'll be sure to post an update if I have any success in this seemingly impossible market.

i disagree, it probably is you and your lack of focus. if you want to be a stock superstar, what the hell are you doing interviewing for 3 different jobs? do you even have a good stock pitch and story that are consistent? i'm from a top 10 mba program with a major private investment management on the buyside, and only the people that truly want it get it. the interviewers can tell if you are not fully dedicated.

E - I agree with your assessment that interviewers can tell if you lack dedication or focus and that you need a good pitch / story. My response to you would be this - two of the interviews were in Economics and Market Strategy groups....same job. The other one was for a consultant company that called me and I decided to interview for the experience. As far as the "Stock Superstar," it's probably more of an "Marcoeconomics / Strategy Superstar," but it was meant to be a play off the Cypress Hill song.....so you want to be a Rock Superstar.....nevermind.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE TRYING TO NOT HIRE FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. BAD FOR YOU GOOD FOR THEM. WITH THE ECONOMY RUNNING LIKE IT IS THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPANIES THAT ARE SCARED TO HIRE NEW EMPLOYEES. ANOTHER THING THAT IS AGAINST YOU IS THE FACT THAT YOU HAVE YOUR MBA AND ARE WORTH MORE MONEY. WE ALL WENT THROUGH IT AT SOME TIME. STAY IN THERE LAD THEY WILL CALL SOONER OR LATER
